About Weston Martinez
Weston Martinez is a fourth generation Texan who was appointed to the Statewide public office of Texas Real Estate Commissioner by former Governor Rick Perry, who now serves as U.S Secretary of Energy. During the near 7-year term Weston served under both Governor Perry and Governor Abbott.
Martinez has been blessed with a diverse professional career including as an oil and gas business development government affairs strategist, and Vice President of Business Development at a Texas Law firm. Over the course of 23 years in the regulated telecommunications industry at Southwestern Bell and AT&T Weston served in various roles which includes outside plant design engineering lead manager for the Southwest United States along with directly reporting to the Office of the President overseeing resolution of Public Utilities, Attorney General, and Better Business Bureau complaints for the United States. Weston brings a strong corporate background to the oil and gas industry since the discovery of the Eagle Ford Shale, Martinez has a unique pro- business, free market approach and has been successful identifying solutions where others see only problems. Martinez was an NCAA bull rider at Texas A&M University Kingsville, later graduating from Wayland Baptist University where he earned a Bachelor’s in Business Administration.
Weston established P5 operating company in Texas where he held the position of CEO. During his tenure of this startup, Weston strategically identified stranded assets, oversaw the securing of over 300,000 acres of water rights including site selection of a very prolific geological feature, while successfully negotiating a multiyear master service agreement with a major on shore operator to provide all water needs in the Eagle Ford Shale. This contract created a bottom line value of annualized revenue of $62 million dollars per year.
As Texas Real Estate Commissioner, Weston worked with the Legislative and Executive Branches of Texas government to oversee all licensing, regulation and enforcement related to Realtors, Inspectors and Appraisers. The agency maintains approximately a 23-million-dollar budget with close to 300 employees seeing nearly 10,000 new license applicants a year where he also served as the budget chairman for the agency for 3 years. During this time Weston worked with team members to modernize the office while reducing costs and increasing service and profit. This appointment required confirmation by the Texas Senate and successfully passing FBI background investigation.
Weston & his wife Geneva have been married twenty years and they have five beautiful children. They are active members of Friendship Church and reside in San Antonio Texas.
